repeated use of edit/find without closing to change records

I am frustrated with having to close the edit/find function in order to
change the data record, and then needing to open and use the edit/find
function again to find the next data record that requires correction. There
should be a way to leave the edit/find function open, yet allow the data
    record to be changed.
