Freeze and split panes in Excel 2003

Want to know if I can freeze and split in the same spreadsheet this way: I
have 5 columns and 30 rows. Right now, I select column B and go to
Window/Freeze Panes. This allows me to see Column A contents no matter how
far to the right I scroll. However, I also want to be able to view the first
5 rows of the spreadsheet no matter how far down I scroll, while at the same
time not losing my Freeze Pane as performed above. How can I do this
    simultaneously?

If you select B6, then apply the windows|Freeze panes, would that help.

Unfreeze first, then try selecting B6 and re-freeze panes
    (Window > Freeze/UnFreeze Panes)
