    This will count unique (distinct) entries in the range A1:A10:

    =SUMPRODUCT((A1:A10<>"")/COUNTIF(A1:A10,A1:A10&""))

    Yes, I've seen it.

    30 min calc times isn't too bad considering what it does!

    Agreed. The time taken to generate all the combinations would vary depending
    on the PC's specs, etc.
