How do I fix my Autofilter in Excel?

I have a very large spreadsheet that I am trying to Autofilter. I have one
specific column that I am trying to filter by and it is not working properly
(I have tried all columns with the same results). The column that I am trying
to filter by has subtotals for all of the values (in different columns) that
I am trying to filter by at the bottom of the spreadsheet (the value that I
am trying to filter by is next to the subtotals in the correct column). These
subtotals are the ones that are not filtering properly. I always get
information that I have not filtered for & sometimes I don't even get the
    correct information.

    Please Help

Can you type an example of the data you're filtering, the results you
expect to see, and the incorrect results that you get?
