Is it just me or excel doesn't have a function to determine the reference of the result it returns?????
It's a bit difficult to explain so I'll give you an example:
I have a column with a list of numbers. Let's say I use the function MAX to return the maximum value from that list, which it does, but what it doesn't do is tell me what the reference of the cell that contains that value is. So you would expect Excel to have a function that could like this:
=THEFUNCTION( MAX(A1:A1000) )
This would return the reference (A1 or R1C1 style) of the cell that MAX function is using to generate its result. You might suggest a solution to my problem specific to this example, but I'm looking for a generic solution. This function I'm looking for would work with not just MAX, but also VLOOKUP, LARGE and many more functions.
If Excel doesn't have such a function, then I can't understand why Microsoft haven't thought of this, because this is so obvious!
Many thanks,
