    Vlookup error

    Hi,
When trying to edit an existing sheet containing vlookup fonction, the format changes from vlookup (cell, table, index, boolean) to vlookup (cell table index boolean). When I change the index value for example, I get an error
You've entered too few arguments for this function - I only changed the value of the index.
I can use an existing function call, but i can not edit one and create a new one - I always get this error.
    I'm using Excel 2000 9.0.3

    Thanks for your help

    Cool hmmm...

Are you still putting the commas between the arguements? If not excel will take what you have put as one arguement and that will be too few for the function. Hence causing the error.

If you post an example of your formula I would be able to help further. However as it stands you havn't really given us much to go on in order to help you with your problem.

    Hi Chappo

When I use an existing excel sheet (which contains some vlookup), when I edit such a cell, the commas disappear from the VLOOKUP function call.
In addition, when I call vlookup with the commas, the error is on the first argument as formula error.

someone may have wrongly entered in Auto Correct options to replace , with a space.

its just a supposition, check for it.
    Tools > Auto Correct options
    Replace: enter here comma
and see wether Delete button becomes clickable if so press delete.

    Regards.

    Hi,

I tried as well with the function wizard (please check the function call in the cell when I used the wizard).

-> Starguy: no such autocorrect rule.

Thanks for your help on that

    All,

It seems that the default separator used by Excel is blank character, (even in the function wizard, the syntax of the function is without commas, but with blanks).
I tried as well power (10, 2) -> replaced by power(10 2) which triggers the error on the number of arguments

Where is the separator stored in MS Office or Excel config?

Answer is 'list separator' in the regional set-up.
When it is set to blank, Excel screws up.
When it is set to comma, Excel works fine.

    Thanks to you all
