Needing a solution for port numbers floor plan

I am trying to create a record of port numbers for the office. I am trying to use a floor plan done by HR which is in a .gif format. I know it is possible to insert a .gif into an excel spreadsheet but is it possible to then add-in the port numbers in the cells behind the .gif so that they are viewable and hyperlinked. Or is there another way round the problem. The floorplan does change from time to time and so i am hoping to use different .gifs and simply copy the changed port numbers to their new locations and for it to be printable ruling out setting the background as a floor plan. Any help would be much appreciated.

Since you do not want to use the floor plan as a sheet background, after you insert the gif onto the worksheet you can add text boxes from the Drawing Toolbar on top of the floor plan and set the fill color to "none". The text boxes can be hyperlinked.
