    Sum with an exeption

i have data arainged in multiple columns and would like to calculate the sum of these values but only the ones that are under the column named "A" but these headings will be moved monthly so i would like to know if there is any functions that can be used so that i will no have to change it along with the title of the column.

    thanks in advance.

It seems to me that you only need to have the total of column A. When you move the data to another column, the total will be adjusted accordingly.
    Best regards,

true true, but there are more then one column of "A" and they will all be moving. will the function stick to the columns only named A? and as i am still a hopeless beginner with excel I would be nice if you could possibly show me how to achieve this
    Thanks

It depends on how you write the formula for the sum, and on how you move the data.

For example, if you select the data you want to sum and give it a name (either by typing the name in the Name box that is at the left of the formula bar, or by using Insert >> Name >> Define), then if you move the data by either inserting a column or by cut & paste or by drag & drop, the Name will move with it, so the sum will remain the same. On the other hand, if you move the data by copy and paste, the name says where it was and now refers to the "old" column A.

So ... tell us how you move the data, and what some of the column headings are (disguise them if you want, we don't care) and what exactly you want to have happen, and I am certain you will get at least two very good options.
