    Question Calculate percentage..

    Hi,

I'm doing a betting spreadsheet and I want to work out how my success rate in a percentage. At the moment I have a column which indicates a win (with the figure 0) or a loss (with the figure 1). How do I calculate the percentage of times that I win?

I'd also like it to keep updating without me having to select more and more cells the more betting i do, is there a way of doing this?

    I appreciate any help,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Have a look at the formula in cell A1 of the attached - I bet you'll be impressed (sorry )

Whether you want to keep adding data is up to you, but to get a comprehensive overall percentage then you'll have to. Considering you only have to type in a zero or one (the formula picks up every cell value in column A from cell A2), it shouldn't be too onerous.

Remember to bet with your head, not over it!

    Cheers,

    Robert

    Thanks Robert,

That is great! Would have taken me ages to find that out. I am definitely trying to bet with my head, hence the use of the spreadsheet. I'm actually not placing any bets at the moment, just testing what would happen if the bets would have been placed.

It seems you're a bit of a star with excel so I do have another question I am using a staking plan based on a percentage of the money I have in my betting account. As I win/lose I'd like this betting account figure to increase/decrease accordingly and also to update the amount I need to bet (say 5% of my account). Is there a way to do this? Have I explained it well enough?

    Cheers,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Bit hard to say, but I think the following steps 4 should suffice:

    1. Have a cell which contains your opening balance (enter as a positive)
    2. Enter your losses (zero flag) as a negative and your wins (one flag) as a positive in another column
    3. Create a formula that references the opening balance (step 1) and adds the total of your win/losses column (step 2) to give you your closing balance
    4. Create another formula based on your closing balance (step 3) to determine how much your next wager will be.

    Good luck,

    Robert
