    Intersection of two lists

    Hi,

    I have two Excel pages.

Page 1 has a long list of about 2000 names, along with some other data in the other columns. Page 2 has a slightly shorter list of about 500 names, with some other data in the other columns. Roughly 400 of the names in Page 2 can be found in Page 1.

I'd like to get a version of Page 1 with ONLY those entries who's names can be found in Page 2. i.e. I'd like to remove all rows in Page 1 whose names do NOT show up in Page 2.

If possible, I'd also like to get all the other information on the other rows of page 2 onto the new version of page 1.

    Is this possible?
    Thanks!

    Hi Mary

What you are looking to get done is certainly possible and can be accomplished by a combination of few functions adn Excel features.

An example file is attached and the procedure followed is briefly given below.

    1. get the confirmation column created in List 2 data. This indicates whether the name is present in List 1 or not.
    2. Once you have the confirmation column in place, sort the data (list 2 with the new col) by the Confirmation col.
    3. Copy the list names that have the confirmation saying 'Present' to a new location.
    4. use the Vlookup() func to lookup all the details from List 1 & 2.

Hope this helps. I am not sure how familiar you are with Excel so apologies if any part of this flies over the head.

    Best Regards
