    copying conditional formatting

I have the following conditional fomrat applied to a cell

Formula is =TODAY()>$F$5 -bascially telling me when things or over due. But my problem is when I go to copy the format ot other cells it always references this same cell (F,5). I've tried dragging and format painter with no luck. What am I doing wrong?

The $ signs in front of the F and in front of the 5 make the cell reference absolute (i.e. it "freezes" that cell reference) so no matter where you copy or move it, it will always reference that cell.

Remove the $ signs to make the reference relative.... note, you may need to leave either the column or row "frozen" depending on your ultimate goal... (i.e. if you just want to reference other rows but always reference the same column then change to $F5, likewise if you want to freeze the row and not the column then, use F$5).

    Hope this helps!
