    LOOKUP function fails

Hi. I'm having trouble with the lookup function.

When I use the lookup function, it gives me a number that is the wrong cell. Instead of giving me the answer in cell D29, it gives me D12.
    --------
This is exactly what I typed:
=LOOKUP("Comondú", 'Presuntos Delincuentes por municipio de la A_B, fuero comun, 1997-2005.xls'!$C$9:$C$32, 'Presuntos Delincuentes por municipio de la A_B, fuero comun, 1997-2005.xls'!$D$9:$D$32)
    --------
The only thing I can think of is that the file I am referencing has commas in it's title and it might confuse Excel. Nevertheless, it still gives me an answer from the second range set.

    Try,

Sort " 'Presuntos Delincuentes por municipio de la A_B, fuero comun, 1997-2005.xls'!$C$9:$C$32 " by ascending.

    Hope this helps.

    Or...............

add the parameter FALSE (or equivalent) to the end of the lookup- then you don't need to sort the list.

    That didn't work

Your suggestions didn't work. For some reason, LOOKUP is giving me the value that is exactly one cell above what I want.

I guess that since that is a predictable error, I can work with it. Nevertheless, if anyone has a suggestion, I'll be tremendously thankful.
