    creating categories based on time

Hi all, hoping someone can help...

I have a matrix of survey observations. I want to statistically analyze observations at different temporal scales thus I want to be able to create groups of observations based on time of observation. For instance I would like to group all observations into 3 minute intervals based on observation time (all observations that fall into the first 3 minutes of the survey would be in category 1, second 3 minutes category 2 etc). However because the matrix is large it is impractical to create a formula writing out all the possible categories.

if my problem is still unclear, please ask for clarification

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi

Can you put up an example file of your data. I think it would be feasaible to put in an input cell to take the category length and be able to identify your times from that, but would like to see your data structure to be sure.

    Hey Rylo,

Thanks for your response. here is a sample of my data. I would like to group the MAMU counts into bins based on Time (e.g. all MAMU counted in the first 5 minutes (9:09:56-9:14:56) would be given a value of 1, next 5 minute segment a value of 2, etc.

Time Spc Count Rain Cloud Vis SS PS
    9:09:56 MAMU 2 light 100 8 3 1
    9:13:09 MAMU 1 light 100 12 4 1
    9:13:22 MAMU 4 light 100 8 3 1
    9:13:28 MAMU 2 light 100 12 4 1
    9:13:44 MAMU 2 light 100 8 3 1
    9:13:59 MAMU 2 light 100 8 3 1
    9:14:14 MAMU 2 light 100 12 4 1
    9:14:34 TS light 100 8 3 1
    9:16:40 light 100 8 3 1
    9:16:40 light 100 8 3 1
    9:17:11 light 100 12 4 1
    9:17:11 light 100 12 4 1
    9:18:14 MAMU 2 light 100 12 4 1
    9:18:40 MAMU 1 light 100 8 3 1
    9:18:40 MAMU 1 light 100 12 4 1
    9:19:26 MAMU 2 light 100 8 3 1

Let me know if there is any other info you need that might aid you in understanding my situation.
