auto date cell when adjacent cell has data entered?

hi there - new here. i am putting together a worksheet in which i have a spreadsheet that i’d like to automate. when i enter, say a reservation number – id like another cell on the same sheet to reflect the date that i entered that reservation number. i know it’s possible but not sure how to do it.

thanks much in advance for this and for what i am sure to be future questions.

    kali

    oO(sigh)

thank for your help! i think i will just end up doing it all manually. this morning and when i refresh to see the sorting everything gets jumbled up. its not auto dating anymore - when i refresh it does something to make it stop. the auto sorting isn’t working for me either. anyway, i appreciate your help - thanks mucho!!

ok i turned off all macro security even though it was "not recommended" and now it seems to be working - at least the auto date is.

now, onto the next sheet and prolly a few more headaches.

you're the best thank you for your patience
