How to make blank cells be ignored in a formula

I'm having problems with the spreadsheet counting blank cells as 0. I'm trying to set it up so that if data is entered into the cells it will be used and a calculated value will appear in another cell but if it is blank both cells will be blank.

    Here's the formula I'm using: =((B6-($L6*B$14/$L$14))^2/($L6*B$14/$L$14))

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Thank you.

All of the data has disappeared now, so I guess that didn't work.

Thank you, that worked perfectly, but how does it work? The formula looks the same in both quotation marks.
