Question Name ends in " s " - apostrophe fix

    Hi

I have set up a mail merge with loads of names in. When it comes to names such as James - it is incorrect. This is because it reads "James's coursework", when i want it to say "James' coursework". However, it needs to change so when David is merged, it reads "David's coursework".

Overall I nead a rule so that when the name ends in "s" it puts in an " ' " (apostrophe), but when the name doesn't end in "s", i want it to put in " 's ".

Note: I need to use excel, and I need to have it so if the name ends in s it doensn't put " 's "

    Many Thanks

    David

Threads merged. David, please don't make the same post in two forums.

According to the Chicago Manual of Style and other sources, "James's coursework" is correct.

I think "James' coursework" would mean more than one James.

If you have the first name in A1, then B1 could have =A1&IF(Right(A1,1)="s","'","'s")&" coursework"
