    combining IF and VLookup formulas

I am comparing one list of employees against another list of employees to see what names are on list A, but not on list B. Also, some names in list A are mistakenly listed more than once. I have the Vlookup formula which searches list B for the names on list A, but i want to combine this formula with an IF formula that will eliminate any names listed more than once in the same list. Can anyone help? I hope my description isn't confusing.

Let's say your list of employees is called "EmployeeList"
Your A List is in column A, in Column B
Please Login or Register to view this content.
This gives you "Duplicate if it's the second (or more) listing on List A,
"Not on List B" if it's only on List A
"On List B" if it's on both.

    Is this what you wanted?

I cant seem to get the formula that you gave to work. This may be due to the fact that I am not good with Excel and am not sure what to change in your formula to make it fit for my specific file. I have attached the actual file so you can have a look at what I am working with. As you can see on the file, I am comparing "Prior Base List" with "Current Base List" and some of the names on both lists are repeated more than once. Thanks.

What you need to do is zip an example of your xls file and upload that. From your DOC document, it looks like you want to reference them both ways, what's on List a that's not on List b and visa versa. Yes?
