cannot summarize with pivot neither vlookup

On a pivot table, i have "Years" and "Letters". I don't know how to get subtotals per year.
See attached file, where the red cells are those which should contain data i need.
    Anyone can help please ?
Should i rather use vlookup with sums instead ? or do it the hard way with with "if" function ?

In fact, i only need total per year and per letter

    A y1 y2 y3 y4
    B y1 y2 y3 y4
    c Y1 Y2 Y3 Y4

Thanks for your help guys !

All that you need is the SUMIF formula

    Hi,

=SUMIF(A2:A7;"A";B2:B7) will give you the totals for year 1 for letter "A"

    Or pivot table

    (see attached)
