adding cells that match a key word

I am having a problem with adding cells that match a keyword from a list of words in another column;

joe 10
bob 5
joe 2
bob 5
joe 7
bob 3
joe 5

joe = ?????
bob = ?????

So I need to know how to lookup all the values attributed to Joe and then have them add up and enter the value at the bottom, equally for the bob values.
Any help is appreciated.
