    =IF formula...

I need help! I wish to enter a formula that will return "a", "b", "c" etc if a column contains a particular word. Each cell contains multiple words as the data was not transferred into mulitple cells and I do not relish the thought of working through 2000 rows of data and entering this manually!

I thought an =IF formula would work but can't work out how to ask: (for instance)
If the cell contains the word "dog" amongst others, return just "dog" to the new cell...

I hope someone understands and gets back to me!
