    Smile bank account balance

I have a budget in where I can type in my expenditures anong with my bank account balance to see how my finances are doing. I go to my banks website, and find my balance there, and then type it into my spreadsheet in cell, say B5.

Is there a function or some way to have cell B5 update without having to go to my banks website, and look up the current balance myself?

    Thank you for any help.

    kc,

From the menu 'Data', 'Import external data', 'New web query ..' you can add the contents of a webpage to Excel.

If the webpage is a ststic page you can refer to a cell, otherwise it's maybe possible to get the current balance with a VLOOKUP function.

Thanks so much for replying. I tried that, and I got an error message that says:

"Unable to open http://banking.zionsbank.com/zfnb/......./viewAccount. Cannot download the information you requested."

Do you have any suggestions for me.

    Thanks,

Cool, I tried using the feature by importing a list of my e-mail messages in hotmail. It gave me "From", "Subject", "Date", and "Size" for all 10 of the messages that I had in my Inbox. I then tried deleting one of my messages in Hotmail just to see if the Excel sheet would update, but I had no luck. The information in my Excel sheet did not update like I was hoping.

Any other suggestions that will make the data in Excel update as a website updates it's information?

    Thank you.

When I replied with "..../ViewAccount", I had just copied the url from the url box and pasted it into my reply. I don't know what you mean by "extension".
Do I have to put something else after "..../View Account"?

Extension would mean ".html", ".asp" or ".php" for example.

I did not physically type an extension, but when I typed in my account information, and password, the entire URL (as well as any neccessary extensions) were input to the url box automatically. Once the page was open, and the full url was displayed in the url box, I clicked on one of the little yellow arrows next to what I thought was a table that contained my balance, and then clicked on "Import". That was when I got the error message.

In fact, I have been able, since to import data from other websites, but the data just shows up in the cells of my spreadsheet without changing, as the website changes. do you know of a way to make the data in the spreadsheet change as the data in the website is updated?
