I am trying to count how many cells in a single column range contain data (text), but none of the following work:
=countif(b7:b17,"<>""")
=countif(b7:b17,">0")
Or count the ones that are empty:
=countif(b7:b17,"=""")
=countif(b7:b17,c1) [where C1 is empty]
What gets me is that I am 99% sure I have done this before!

How about:
=Counta(b7:b17)
and
=Countblank(B7:B17)
Where there is a will there are many ways.

counta would count non-blank cells
=COUNTA(A1:A5)
this counts cells with a value
=COUNT(A1:A6)
=COUNTA(Range) is just what I needed!!!
