finding the #ref when formula is hidden

I have a new Excel Workbook that has one sheet that is protected by a password (which I do not have). There are some cells in the protected sheet that are showing #REF, but the formulas are hidden so I can't find where the problem is coming from. Is there any way to find out what these three cells are looking at that brings back the error? I am hoping to correct the situation on the unprotected sheet so that the protected "statistics" sheet does not show the #REF message.

    Thanks,
    dcoates

if you can select the cell that contains the #REF then you could use the evaluate formula feature to find where the error is coming from.

I'm sorry, but what is meant by "use the evaluate formula to feature"? I am drawing a blank on this.

if you select a cell with a formula, then go up to tools/formula auditing/evaluate formula. then you can evaluate each step of a formula and see where your #REF is occurring.

Is this a feature in Excel 2000? It is not on my menu and since the sheet is password protected, some of the menu items are not accessible (light colored). However, I do not see formula auditing listed in the menu.
