    Lookup functions

    Hi

I have some problems with the lookup functions.

    Here is an example:

    GDP CPI M1
    01-01-2008 2,5 4,5 12
    01-02-2008 2,6 4,4 13
    01-03-2008 2,7 4,7 12,5
    01-04-2008 2,8 4,8 13,5

These datas are in my data sheet. Then in a different sheet, I am making a drop down menu where I can choose GDP, CPI or M1. With the help of hlookup I can easyly get the numbers below (GDP, CPI or M1). But what I want also is to get the dates - how do I do that? I want to use it, so I can by choosing the different series can change a diagram. In the end the datas would be a more complex, so I cant just make a direct reference to the dates - I need to look it up.

    Kind regards

    LPN

It seems like here I have two options to choose from both dates and series. What I want is just to pick the GDP, CPI og M1 and then I can return both the dates and the series? And I cant predefine the dates as you have in this sheet called "dates". Because I might have many series and dates are not in same frequency and format.

I am attaching an example of how the data could look like - as you see completely different formats and frequency. And I have also put in the function to get the series, but I need the dates. I think the example make it more clear what is that I want.

    G'day,

    How about this one ?

I've got some backgound information hidden at Lookup cell B4 and on the Data sheet more information in with the Dates. Text hidden is format the colour white.

I also tidy the formulas so if there no information from the lookup the cells return blank.

    Hi LPN,
Maybe placing this formula in C4 and dragging it down will work for you
