    Offset function

    Not sure i could use the above function here:
    is there a way to set up a formula at the top of the spreadsheet so that a specific row with various data is repeated at the top of the spreadsheed based on the one cell in that row? For example, if i have a list of names (in column A) and corresponding data accross the spreadsheet, I'd want to recall a particular row based on ONE name. If offset function is right, can you show a simple example? thanks

    I think you're looking for Vlookup...

    e.g. =Vlookup(A1,$A$2:$Z$100,Column(B$1),False)

    this will lookup the name in A1 in the database A2:Z100 and pull the item in column B...

    adjust ranges to suit.

    copy the formula across to pull from column C, D, E, etc....
    Where there is a will there are many ways.
