Exclamation it is probably so easy but help needed!

i have a long list of data e.g types of fruit! next to each fruit is a price, i need to produce a table showing total price next to each fruit. The spreadsheet is layed out like this.

    A B
    apple 2.00
    apple 1.00
    pear 3.00
    banana 1.50
    apple 2.00

so from the above data i need to produce a table which looks up the name and returns the total price:

    apple: 5.00
    pear: 3.00
    banana:1.50

i would appreciate any help on this, is there also an easy way to produce a kind of automated list so i dont have to type each fruit out i can just list where the name changes? the spreasheet is 3000 rows and for the example of fruits there are about 40 different ones.
