grouping months in pivot table and calculating average

    Hello,

I am faced with following problem: I have a list containing among other information, the number of persons working within our firm. I use the list to make pivot tables. In order to make the pivot tables more clear, I would like to group the information by quarter but of course I do not need the total number of persons working with us over three monts but the average per month. This is normally not a problem but I have had to group different services that belong to one direction and that gives a problem: so I do have e.g. "Central administration" in which you find different services, A, B, C etc.
When I group by quarters and change from 'sum' into 'average', the result is correct for the services but not for the direction. In the sample file, you can see that in the 1th quarter of 2008, the total number (sum of three months) is 61 and the average is only 6,78.... So I do get the correct average for the services but I need the average for the direction...I should get 61/3 but do not know how I might do this....

you can change the field settings in the pivot table toolbar, (view/toolbars/pivot table) highlight the cells that you want to change, click on field settings and change to sum.

    hoope it helps

    thanks reg
