Static Date/Time Function for shared workbook

I need help writing a function to display the date and time in cell B1 when any text is entered into A1. Using =if(A1<>"".NOW(),"") will display the current date/time in B1 but each time I open the spreadsheet up it will change to that current date/time. I understand that in a shared workbook that I can't use a Macro. Is that correct? Can a function be wrote that says that if a date/time has been found in cell B1 do not update that date/time? Thanks.
