Drop Down Lists - how to auto-populate with first few letters typed?

I have a worksheet with some drop down lists, and I would like the user to be able to type in the first few letters/numbers and have it pull up the correct item from the list. Does anyone know how to do that? It MUST be possible, after all, it's Excel!!

    G'day stemcell1,

    Try this,

    http://www.contextures.com/excelfiles.html#DataVal

Then find these. Please find out which one is for you.

DV0043 - Data Validation Combobox With Entry Check

DV0032 - Dependent Data Validation Combobox

DV0028 - Data Validation Combobox Named Lists

    DV0020 - Data Validation Combobox

and hopefully I did not overlook any other options in that list

    Cheers

    Data validation

Wow, thanks! Very helpful!! I'm still having one problem though. After following all the steps, I can't get the combox to actually work. When I try to exit design mode, a window pops up telling me that my security level is too high and to authorize the macros. There aren't any macros showing up on this document though, and I can't figure out how to authorize anything.

    security

Thanks for the info! I was able to fix the problem by just reducing the security to Medium for now, but that's just a temporary fix. This article will definitely come in handy.
