Extract values on either side of "+"

This is probably a long shot to get this to work (i havn't been able to figure it out for a couple of weeks now)

i designed part of a spreadsheet to track ACH payments to vendors based on vendor name. For the first time since it's implimentation we paid two vendors on the the same day. Currently i use a simple sumif to sum the total ACH to a vendor for the month as part of a summary sheet.

Example: A1 = 100 B1 = "A Company" - Use a sumif to sum all ACH for the month of Aug

Now: A1 = 100 + 200 B1 = "A Company" C1 = "B Company"

is it possible to sum the 100 with "A Company" and the 200 with "B Company in a single cell with a single formula?

Is the value in A1 entered as text, so it appears in the cell as 100 + 200? Or do you literally have a formula in A1 which is =100 + 200 and therefore gives the answer 300 in the cell?

if it were text i could use LEFT, MID, FIND, etc to extract it. Not sure if you can search a formula at all though
