    Always default to $

    Hello.
I'm working on Mac OSX, Excel Version 12.

No matter how many times I enter a currency amount with a £ symbol, it has reverted back to $ each time I re-open the saved file.

I've tried using Format Cells/Custom and Currency with the £ symbol, and also checked that my Mac System international preferences are set to £.... but I just keep defaulting to $.

    Any ideas great appreciated!

It's possible that your Excel program uses a default workbook, where the currency format has been pre-set to dollars. This will override the system preferences.

This workbook may be called (eg) book.xlt. You should find it and delete it (unless it's required for any other reason), or set the formatting for all cells all sheets to pounds.

    Regards
    Mike
