apply color to a cell using a formula

Need to know if it is possible to assign a predetermined color to a cell which has a scroll down with alternatives.

For example, if I choose alternative 1 in the scroll down options, the cell will automatically be painted in red.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you need to use conditional formatting. So from the Menu choose Format, then set the conditions, click the Format button and apply whatever formats you want.

Yes, for up to three different colors, as Richard suggested. If you search the forum for conditional format, you will find many relevant examples.
