    Search function in massive database

Hi Guys, I am new to this forum and indeed to the level of expertise that alo of you are showing, very impressed

I am not a novice to Excel but the use of macros and search functions is an area that I have never really had to delve into before.

I have just started a new job and I have been tasked with a creating a database of all the components within the company and indeed listing there various chemical components.

    There are 4000 components

Whilst the creation of the database and hyperlinks to the more detailed information is not a problem the search function is.

I would like my company to enter a part code into a box and then have the corresponding part code and associated dat in that row appear below the search box.

I also thought it would be cool if the search box could then be re-used with the new result appearing below the first. and so and so on.

I am guessing this would involve the use of macros so any help on this would also be appreciated.

I realise this is a lot to ask but I am not looking so much for you to do this for me but rather show me how or point to a good tutorial, so that I may learn for futre projects.

    Many Thanks

    Martyn

This uses a dropdown for selection of the item which then displays a number of other cells in the row, pulled from a reference worksheet.

Thanks for the reply mhuston but it doesn't really help me. You have to remember there will be 4000 items in the drop down menu

I really need a clickable button that opens a search box then places the resulting range of data in the corresponding row into a list that is added to with each subsequent entry into the search box.
