    Automatically resorting adjusted data

Hi...I am trying to see if excel is able to re-sort data on a linked worksheet if data on the front worksheet is adjusted.

In the attached spreadsheet, we are creating a work schedule for a variety of employees. We want to be able to see the entire schedule at a glance chronologically, which is what the front worksheet does. We also wanted to have the second sheet linked to the first such that it can be sorted by employee name and we can give employees a personal schedule in addition to having the general overview.

What I am trying to figure out is this: Is thre a way that excel can reconfigure the data (in this case re-alphabatize the employee names) if we simply change one the the names on the front sheet? As it stands, we need to re-sort the back worksheet to accomplish this.

For Example, If I want to replace cell "D10" (currently "Jerry Garcia") with a different name (say "Tom Brady"), is is possible that the back worksheet can realign the data so Tom's shift is not just sitting in the cell where "D10" was linked, in the "J"s Can Excel recognize that the new name sdtarts with a "T" and then move that down the worksheet to where "T" SHOULD be???

This would save me SO much time. If there is a way to do this, I REALLY appreciate your input.

    thanks!

    Hi

One of the easiest ways to do this is with a worksheet event.

Right click on the Sorted sheet tab, view code and paste in the code

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Now if you select Input, then back to Sorted, it will bring in and sort the data.

It is possible to do with formulas, but is quite messy...... Refer to the attached for one way.
