    Nested Vlookup and Right/Left Function

Hi. I have attached my questions in the picture. Have tried the formula but i couldn't get it to return the category that I want.
Have tried to change the format of the value in both Vlookup Cat column as text and it still doesn't work. Anyone has any idea why?
    THanks!

It looks like it should work....however your range is including the d1 cell which is blank and the vlookup may not know how to handle this with it being in the top row of the lookup. I think Vlookup likes thing sequentially listed...

If you copied this formula into the cells below it, the range would have changed and thus why they are functioning. Try changing the range to not include d1:e1

PS...you may want to delete your other identical posting before you get an infraction

Hi.Have tried that, it didn;t work either. Have included range d1:E1 before, it worked as well, so am clueless as in why the formula did not work..

thanks for the reminder. I didn't realized i had posted twice
