Locking a Workbook with editable cells

    Hello -

I am trying to lock a workbook with a few allowable edits. I have found how to allow users to make certain edits to the workbook (like inserting rows), but I need to allow them full access to edit data is some cells (example below tan cells) but not for any other cells. How do I do this? I have tried doing this under "Allow users to edit ranges," but keep running into problems.

Attached example - want to allow edits to only Light Yellow cells.

    Thanks for your help!

Hi MSS, and welcome to the forum.

Select the light yellow cells, right-click on the selection and choose 'Format Cells...'. Click on the Protection tab and un-check the box next to 'Locked'. Protect the worksheet and save.

You'll be able to edit those light yellow cells, even though the worksheet is protected.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Paul - This was very helpful. One more question... can you lock the book so that formulas cannot be edited but can be dragged down?

I was hoping to create a book where a user can insert a row and bring the locked formulas into that row.
