    Extracting strings

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to extract a string of data from a column on a worksheet? The data I need is an email address which ends with a '>' (hasn't shown up in my pasted data and in Excel it is shown as a tiny square). Can I extract this and dump the rest of the data? It will always be the first piece of data in the field but the length and rest of the data vary, e.g.

    '[email protected]

    The reason for the problem:

    5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'5.1.1 <[email protected]>... User is unknown {mx069}'

    '[email protected]

    The reason for the problem:

5.1.0 - Unknown address error 554-'delivery error: dd Sorry your message to [email protected] cannot be delivered. This account has been disabled

Your help would be much appreciated

    Re: Extracting strings

So what exactly do you want to extract from the sample?

Can you add a sample workbook so we see the characters you are talking about?

    Re: Extracting strings

Ok many thanks, see attached for sample data. I need to extract the email addresses from the text so I can clean a database (these are all dud emails from bounces). The original data was extracted from Outlook, I then deleted what I didn't need. In that data the email addy was surrounded by <> but not sure why I don't see them in my Excel data
