    format for table

    Hi guys

I have attached a chart I have set up, but i was wondering if i am able to link the 'total bought' chart on the right hand side with column B 'owner name', so that it automatically adds up how many rows each name is in. I have set the 'total bought' chart up manually so you can see what I am after. I am guessing it is some sort of formula, but unsure of which myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Gemma

See COUNTIF in XL Help, eg:

    O2: =COUNTIF($B:$B,$N2)
    copied down

Alternatively perhaps think of using a Pivot Table (see link in sig for basic intro.)

    Re: format for table

    Hi

I have one more question if possible please. I have amended the chart with information in the grading and class columns. Is there any sort of formula that can be used which can total up in the 'total bought' chart on the right hand side from the 2 rows comined. I am looking at finding the total G1A bought, G1B, G2B, G2C and G2D bought. Not sure if it is possible because there are different numbers next to the letters. Are you able to have a formula which incorporates something like 'begins with A,B,C,D etc?

    Thanks
    Gemma
