    Re: sorting

So you need the data to be sorted and then if there are multiple records, to put a M, if only a single record, put a S?

    hi josh,

in order for you to highlight duplicate rows, you may need to use a helper column (which you can hide). are you fine with that?

if so, in the file that you have provided, put this formula in cell F2 and drag-fill the formula downwards up to F22.

then, create a Conditional Formatting rule, where the formula is:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
choose Format to be appled as yellow background. then, set Applies To to "=$A$2:$F$22" and save this rule.

you will see that all duplicate rows have been highlighted.

now, sorting can be done very easily - highlight cell A1 (Name), then invoke the Sort menu (ALT > A > S). choose to Sort By "Name" and click on OK. that's it.

i have also inserted another column to display M or S depending on whether there are duplicates or not.
