    Match function doesn't find BLANK cells?

    I'm surprised and confused as to why =Match("",A1:A300,0) doesn't find blank cells in the "who does what" worksheet of the attached file. Can you help?

    Try:

    =MATCH(TRUE,INDEX(A1:A300="",0),0)
    Where there is a will there are many ways.

    I see that this works, but could someone give an explanation of how it works? I can find a lot of references to using INDEX(MATCH, but none for MATCH(INDEX.

    And how does the A1:A300="" work? I can't find anything that says that should even be legal, and it doesn't seem to be accepted in any other function.
