    Adding data from different columns

Firstly I am new to forums. My problem is that I want to obtain a total (figure) from 2 different columns. One column has the name of a country and the other column has a figure. I want the grand total from the figures that matches the country. I hope this reads ok

Re: Adding data from different columns

Tks for the info but I may have mislead you. The column with country actually may contain many different countries. The column with the figures will have many different figures. What I need is to total up the figures which match the specified country. Example; Sudan (in column A) Which may appear several times. In column B (Accidents before training) will have a number corresponding to the country, therefore I want to get a total for all the accidents in Sudan before training..................... Is this more specific??

    Hi Wobbigong
write the name of the counrty in C1 then in D1 use contaminated's formulae
    =sumif(a:a,c1,b:b)
