    IF THEN statements

I have 8 columns total and want to create an if then statement for the sum of column D IF in column A contains a + sign for that row.

Almost like a balance check book - if the row contains the + sign then add it up with all the others with that sign and create a sum of all those while ignoring the rows with a - sign. Thanks!

Re: Help with IF THEN statements

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
    Hope that helps.

Re: Help with IF THEN statements

    Hi straderade,

    welcome to the forum.

Maybe this formula will do the trick:

    =SUMIF(A1:A100,"=+",D1:D100)

    adjust ranges to suit

Thank you both for your post.

@ Teylyn, ZOMG this worked perfectly! Excatly what I was looking to achieve and man It's really cool. The statement is pretty simple actually but me being a newb at Excel I couldn't achieve this by myself or find any resources online to help me.

    Thanks Again!!
