    Smile Ranking Tiebreakers

    Hi
I am really banging my head up against a wall. I am having a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to rank a tiebreaker where the rank is calculated using the following conditions:

First the rank is to be calculated based on an overall score (which it is doing and it is fine) But then if two or more players have the same score - I would like the tiebreaker rank to calculate based on the average % of games won.

At the moment the tiebreaker rank is resulting in the rank order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ordering the rank based on the player who is higher on the list.

    I hope this makes sense.

I have attached an example file in (.xls format) with the hope that one of the fantastic people on this forum can help me please.

    Thank you

    Re: Ranking Tiebreakers

    Hi,

You could do this using an "helper" column.

In your example, in cell F15 enter

    =C15+D15/1000

    and copy down to F19

    Then in G15

    =RANK(F15,$F$15:$F$19)

    and copy down to G19
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

    Re: Ranking Tiebreakers

You can use this formula in E4 copied down

    =RANK(C4,C$4:C$8)+SUMPRODUCT((C$4:C$8=C4)*(D$4:D$8>D4))

Thank you so much sweep and daddylonglegs

I really appreciate the help very much and also the speed of reply.

Both of your ideas work great and I actually think I understand the processes behind them as well.... (or if not fully understand the processes I understand some of them)

You guys rock - Thanks again.

    Re: Ranking Tiebreakers

In golf we have a scorecard playoff to rank players. If they tie on the number of strokes for 18 holes, we look at the last 9 hole score, then last 6 then last 3 and finally last hole.

My calculation for the player's score is strokes for 18 plus last 9 holes divided by 1000, plus last 6 divided by 100000, plus last 3 divided by 10000000, plus last hole divided by 1000000000.

The score when stretched out might look like:
    72.037241004 meaning 72 for 18, 37 for back 9, 24 for last 6, 10 for the last 3, and 4 on the last hole.

I only display the integer value of the number for the score but it works great for tiebreakers.

All that said you could Add the average percentage divided by 1000 to each of your scores and then ranking works great.
