Unsorted Lists: Obtaining the value only once even if repeated

    Hi all,

First time here so be gentle with me.

There is a list A1:B5. It contains the names of various people who have done a test named 'blah', as below.

    blah Jeff
    blah James
    blah Jill
    blah Jeff
    blah Jill

I would like to obtain a result as below. Ideally, I would like to be able to forego having to type in the names manually to get the result. So that if a new name is added to the list above, the list below will update.

    Jeff 2
    James 1
    Jill 2

    Any ideas?

    Hello

    Welcome to the Forum.

I think probably the best thing for this would be a pivot table.

I have attached an example spreadsheet which hopefully will help you.

    Cheers
