Using file path reference in vlookup

I tried entering a file path, file name and data range into a cell, then reference that cell within vlookup. But it doesn't work.

I have numerous vlookups that point to various excel files, but the file names change throughout the year. I am trying to avoid the cumbersome code changes and was hoping I could just limit it to updating cell entries to easily control file name/range changes.

Is this even possible? Without using VBA and having the other execl file open.

Input and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at examples of INDIRECT

Thank you for your reply. I tried variations of Indirect, but still unable to get it to work.

I can't really guess at what your VLOOKUPs might look like.

    Try posting a sample workbook.
