    conditional formatting for multiple cells

    Hi everyone,

I have set up a VBA and from that I get Names in cells A and in b1, b2 etc I have the up to date number which is refreshed every 2 minutes numbers and saved into the next available cells (c1, d1 etc). Eventually there will be 20 - 30 players so data will be quite hard to read.

I have managed to set up conditional formatting so that if cells c1 to h1 are equal to b1 the colour is orange, if less then blue and greater than is green.

At present I can only do it so that it is always linked to b1, but if you see the attachment I am wanting it so each cell is conditional formatted against the previous cell ie c1 is linked to b1, d1 to c1 etc. I can do this but only by setting each conditional format manually, so when I do have 20 players and inormation going up to cells BB it will be too much to carry out manually. is there a way to set something up so this can be set up automatically?

Sorry I find this hard to explain but hopefully the attachment will help.

    Thanks in advance
    Julie

Your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web.

You'll find people are disinclined to respond to cross-posts because they may be wasting their time solving a problem that has been solved elsewhere.

We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this

Also interesting that you go by 2 different forenames...

Re: conditional formatting for multiple cells

Gemma, this is all possible with relative referencing.

Using your sample clear all conditional format rules from C3:H3
(select C3:H3 -> Home Tab -> Conditional Format -> Clear Rules -> Selected Cells)

Then with those cells still active apply your new rules using mixed references, eg:

Re: conditional formatting for multiple cells

Thanks for reply. can i ask something which is probably very simple just not sure. once i am ready to apply my new rules where exactly do i put them? do i go back onto cond. formatting and add a new rule, if so i am unsure which rule type to pick.

    i appreciate your help.

Re: conditional formatting for multiple cells

First remove any pre-existing rules as outlined.

When setting up the replacement rules:

-- choose option: "Use a Formula to Determine Which Cells to Format"
    -- enter your formula
-- apply your format as appropriate
-- OK out of the dialogs

If in doubt Google - you should find plenty of material on Conditional Formatting specific to XL2007 as this feature changed significantly from XL2003.
