    Locate multiplier

I need a formula to complete the following:
    Example: $49.67 = 0.3872 or $67.95= 0.3872, $73.35 = 0.4180

When I use a specific number in the range I require it to find the MUP for that column.

    MUP 1.00 0.4180 0.4076 0.3971 0.3872

    18 $128.29 $53.63 $52.29 $50.94 $49.67
    16 $175.49 $73.35 $71.53 $69.69 $67.95

    Re: Locate multiplier

    Try:

    =INDEX($B$1:$F$1,SUMPRODUCT(($B$3:$F$4=J2)*(COLUMN($B$3:$F$4)-COLUMN($B$3)+1)))

where B1:F1 contains your headers and B3:B4 contains your table of values

and J2 contains the lookup value, e.g. $49.67
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    Re: Locate multiplier

    =INDEX(THHNGRID!$C$7:THHNGRID!$AU$7,SUMPRODUCT((THHNGRID!$C$9:THHNGRID!:THHNGRID!$AU$39=G6)*(COLUMN(THHNGRID!$C$9:THHNGRID!:THHNGRID!$UA$39)-COLUMN(THHNGRID!$C$9)+1)))

I am getting an error and can't seem to find it.

    Re: Locate multiplier

Morning fellow Canadian - copy and pasted the formula but still received the #N/A. When I went to calculation steps all it would show is the #N/A. What do you think?

Do you have any cells within the ranges that have the #N/A error.

    Re: Locate multiplier

If you have blank rows, you might get the #VALUE error, but I don't think you'd get the #N/A error

    How about this one:

which must be confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER not just ENTER

If still not working.. can you attach a sample workbook....

    Re: Locate multiplier

Well, one problem that I can't believe I didn't catch before is that you have COLUMN(THHNGRID!$C$9:$UA$39) that is inconsistent and should be COLUMN(THHNGRID!$C$9:$AU$39)

The other problem is the empty rows between... so try:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
And remember after entering the formula, hit F2 to make cell active and then hold the CTRL and SHIFT keys down, then hit ENTER. You will see { } brackets appear around the formula.

Works great - thanks so much. Used to live off Erin Mills Parkway in Miss. Would like to increase my knowledge on functions - any suggestions as your knowledge seems vast.

    Re: Locate multiplier

I actually live very close to there... but closer to the Square One shopping mall

My knowledge, believe it or not, is mainly from sticking around these forums for several years... I have not used any books or help guides... just learning from trial and error, from the other gurus, and from asking questions myself...

There are lots of links in the top two sticky threads in the Excel General forum that will definitely teach you a lot of basics and tips and tricks...
