    multiply column

I'm sure there is a simple way to do this.
I have 300 rows in a spread sheet. in column h, I want to multiply the column D number by the Column F number (so for row 3 it would be =D3 * F3) The problem is I do not want to have to put this function in each row individually, having to change the row number in each row. Is there a way to format the whole column (H) so that the figure in column H on each row is the product of column D multiplied by column F?

    Thanks,
    JB

Hi jokerboy and welcome to the forum,

You need to learn about AutoFill. Do your first formula in H3 and press enter. Then click on H3 and move your mouse cursor to the bottom right corner of the cell until it turns into a Plus Sign. Double Click you mouse and it will do your formula for all 300 rows.
    Read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291359 or
    http://www.jegsworks.com/Lessons/num...s/autofill.htm or
    http://chandoo.org/wp/2009/06/12/excel-mouse-tricks/ The AutoFill part.

Perhaps I'm mis-reading this, or you haven't discovered one of the beauties of Excel.

If you type in your formula in H3 -> =D3 * F3, and then when H3 is highlighted you'll see a wee black square shape in the bottom right-hand corner of the frame around cell H3. Click and drag that all the way down and the formula will be repeated, incrementing for each rown it copies down (i.e. cell H4 will now contain =D4 * F4, cell H5 will contain =D5 * F5, etc...). You can always copy and paste your formula all the way down and it will increment the cells for you too.
