I need a simple formula to sum cells that contain alpha and numeric
eg
A1: W + 9
A2: W + 15
A3: L - 12
There is a space either side of the '+' or '-' (plus or minus) symbol.
Any help

Using
A1: W + 9
A2: W + 15
A3: L - 12
If I understand you correctly, you want to sum the values after the first letter in each cell.
If that's true, using your posted example, this regular formula does that:
B1: =SUMPRODUCT(--MID(SUBSTITUTE(A1:A3," ",""),2,4))
Using your posted data, that formula returns: 12
(+9+15-12)
Is that something you can work with?
