Trying to copy conditional formatting to different places in same worksheet

Hi,

I have a worksheet with hourly temperatures. The data are organized in separate blocks (but on the same worksheet). Each block has 3 columns (date, time, temperature) and 24 rows (=hours).

Setting up the conditional formatting for the first block so that the maximum daily temperature shows in red and the minimum dialy temperature shows in blue works fine. The problem arises when I try to copy the formatting to the next block(s) with Edit/Paste/Special. It works two or three times but after that the colour coding no longer shows (=no colour). The formulas for the conditional formatting have been copied correctly but none of the temperature data are marked either red or blue.

I also tried to individually format several blocks using the standard routine Format/ Conditional Formatting/ ... on each block. Same result, after the third block or so the colour coding no loner works.

I am using Excel 2003. Is there a tight limit on what can be conditionally formatted in a particular worksheet ??

Hi Alex E.

It seems to me, if you put all your data in the same 3 columns you could do a simple Pivot Table to get your answers. See the attached. Maybe it's time to learn Pivot Tables?
